What kind of acne do you have?

Not all acne is the same, and that’s why one product rarely fixes it. The type of breakout you have shapes the treatment that will help.

Blackheads and whiteheads

Clogged pores that sit close to the surface. Often the first sign that oil and dead skin are building up.

Red, inflamed bumps

Papules and pustules that feel tender and can leave dark marks behind as they heal.

Deep, painful breakouts

Cysts and nodules that form under the skin. These are the ones most likely to scar, so they deserve attention early.

Hormonal acne

Breakouts along the jawline, chin and neck that flare with your cycle, stress or life changes.

Body acne

Breakouts on the back, chest and shoulders, often linked to sweat, friction and tight clothing.

Teen acne vs. adult acne

Teen acne usually comes with the hormone shifts of puberty. It often shows up across the forehead, nose and chin, and the right routine early on can keep it from leaving marks. Adult acne catches a lot of people off guard. You may have had clear skin for years, then started breaking out in your twenties, thirties or forties.

Hormones, stress, sleep, new products and some medications can all play a part. Adult skin also tends to be more sensitive, so harsh drugstore treatments can make things worse.

We treat both. Many families in Prosper start with us for a teen’s first acne facial and stay for years.

What causes breakouts?

Acne starts in the pore. Four things usually work together:
  1. Your skin makes extra oil.
  2. Dead skin cells don’t shed the way they should and clog the pore.
  3. Acne causing bacteria grow inside that clogged pore.
  4. Your body responds with inflammation, which creates redness, swelling and tenderness.
Common triggers include hormone changes, stress, heavy or pore clogging products, touching your face, sweat that sits on the skin, and some medications.

When skincare isn't enough

It may be time for professional help if:
  • You’ve tried several products for a few months and nothing has changed
  • Your breakouts are painful, deep or leave marks behind
  • Acne is affecting how you feel about yourself
  • You’re seeing scars or dark spots form where breakouts used to be
You don’t need to know which treatment you need before you come in. Figuring that out is our job.

Acne treatment options at Fitzy Shades

Most clear skin plans combine in office treatments with the right products at home. Here’s what we use and why.

01

Acne facials

A deep clean built for breakout prone skin. We cleanse, exfoliate, perform extractions and finish with products chosen for your skin. A good place to start for teens and for anyone with clogged pores.

02

HydraFacial®

HydraFacial® clears out pores with suction based extraction, then delivers hydrating serums. It can be customized for oily, congested skin and makes a strong add on between other treatments.

03

Chemical peels and VI Peel

Peels remove the top layer of dead skin cells that clog pores and help fade the marks breakouts leave behind. The VI Peel line gives us several formulas to choose from, so we can match the strength to your skin.

04

Aerolase laser

Aerolase targets acne causing bacteria and calms the inflammation behind active breakouts. It’s a go to option for us because it can be used across a wide range of skin tones, including skin of color, after a skin assessment.

05

LED light therapy

Blue light targets acne causing bacteria and red light helps calm redness. LED pairs well with facials and peels.

06

Medical grade skincare

What you do at home matters as much as what we do in the spa. We’ll recommend products from lines like ZO® Skin Health, SkinBetter Science and Revision Skincare based on your skin, not on a trend.

How long until I see results?

Acne takes time to calm down. Many clients notice fewer new breakouts within the first several weeks, and steadier results build over a series of treatments paired with a consistent home routine. Your provider will give you a timeline that matches your skin.

Who is a good candidate?

Acne treatment at Fitzy may be a good fit if you’re a teen or adult with mild to moderate acne, hormonal breakouts, body acne, or breakouts that leave marks. We see all skin types and tones.

Some treatments may not be right for you if you’re pregnant or nursing, currently taking isotretinoin (Accutane) or have recently stopped, have an active skin infection or cold sore in the area, or have a recent sunburn. Severe cystic acne may need a dermatologist’s care alongside ours, and we’ll tell you honestly if that’s the case.

Already clear but left with marks?

If your breakouts are under control but scars or dark spots stayed behind, you’re ready for the next step. See our Acne Scar Treatment and Hyperpigmentation & Dark Spot Treatment pages.
